OIL
A New Frontier

My project this semester as part of Advanced Studies in Architectural Design involved the design of a research town within the Athabascan Oil Sands in northern Canada. In order to understand the vast expanses of beautiful Borreal forest, in places devastatingly affected by mining operations, I opted to create a virtual model of our response to the brief.

The architecture reflects an overarching desire for resilience to harsh arctic climate and draws heavily on existing investment by DARPA in extreme weather vehicles and a zeppelin project known as the SKYHOOK which would touch down in remote areas and unload heavy shipments of vital cargo to the researchers.

This project will be exhibited at Monash University, Caulfield from November 16th 2012,
As a standalone GAME where visitors to the architecture exhibition can physically walk, drive or fly around the site to better understand the scale of these incredible oil sands.
